The Vehicle Industry is Restarting After The Pandemic

Do you wonder what this pandemic is doing to the Vehicle industry? Well the pandemic has forced most automakers to close all of their factories in North America. These automakers are slowly opening various facilities in stages and gradually reintroducing their products. This process will certainly take several months if not years for these automakers to restore production to its normal.

There are huge challenges facing the automaker industry. Factors such as stay-at-home orders varying by state are making it hard for certain factories to reopen. Moreover, some suppliers have limited financial resources to roll back assembly lines and finally lack the ability to produce the personal protection equipment to keep their employees safe. The most expensive and biggest impact situation the entire industry is wanting to avoid is fully stopping production and restarting production as a whole.

There is light at the end of the tunnel though, some major automakers such as the German automakers, Mercedes-Benz and BMW began operating partially in the United States. Tesla began reopening their factory in early May. General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler all began production May 18.

Why is it important?

Stopping production is insanely expensive for automakers. Volkswagen, for example, estimated that stopping production has cost them over two billion dollars since March. In order to help mitigate the losses, these companies need to make vehicles. Many of these automakers are creating incentives for new car buyers such as 0% apr financing offers. As we move through phases of reopening, the automakers are navigating themselves to a new normal as well.
